Emergency contacts

For US citizens in Chile:

If you are a citizen of the US and have an after-hours emergency, call (56-2) 330-3000 to be connected with the duty officer. If you have an emergency during normal business hours, call (56-2) 330-3716. Emergencies are generally considered to be life-threatening situations.

If you are a victim of a crime, call the local police at 133. The US Embassy cannot take custody of American citizens or intervene in Chilean legal procedures. All US citizens are subject to the laws of the Government of Chile.

If you are injured and require immediate medical attention, call emergency medical services at 132.

If your passport was lost or stolen, see information for replacing a lost or stolen passport on the US embassy website. Unless it is a life-threatening situation, the embassy will assist you with a limited-validity passport on the next business day. Please be prepared to contact your airline to reschedule flights.

For all non-emergency matters, contact the American Citizen Services unit at santiagoamcit@state.gov or call (56-2) 330-3000 to access the information line.
