NRAO Diversity & Inclusion Statement

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) strongly believes that a diverse staff is critical for our mission to enable world-class science with cutting edge radio facilities for the scientific community, to train the next generation of scientists and engineers, and to foster a scientifically literate society.   We are committed to a diverse and inclusive work place culture that appreciates all individuals across all identities, including race, gender, gender identity/expression, age, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, or national origin and culture.

This commitment to diversity and inclusion extends to all NRAO interactions with the broader community.

EEO Statement

The Observatory will monitor and review the application/recruitment process to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly, without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin or any other characteristic protected by law. There will be no discrimination against any employee or applicant for employment because of mental or physical disability. Further, the Observatory will take affirmative action to employ, advance in employment, and otherwise treat qualified handicapped individuals, qualified disabled veterans, and veterans of the Vietnam Era without discrimination based on their disability or veteran’s status in all employment practices. The Observatory will select the best qualified candidate to perform the duties of an available position and will give first consideration to present employees whenever practical.

NRAO Diversity Strategic Vision

To enable diversity to thrive in all areas of the Observatory in a seamless manner, wherein diversity becomes a natural part of the way we think about work, in the decisions we make, and in our behavior towards others.

NRAO Diversity Policy Statement

Our employees, essential to our success, are to be valued, treated with respect, and have opportunities to work in an inclusive, multi-cultural and gender diverse environment.

NRAO staff and management are responsible and accountable for achieving the above goals.
