The AUI Retirement Plan is a 401(a) Retirement Plan. AUI's 401(a) plan allows for contributions only by the employer. Withdrawals from your 401(a) can only be made after you have terminated service. In-service withdrawals are NOT allowed. Contact TIAA-CREF or Fidelity for specific information on withdrawal options.

The US Internal Revenue Code gives employees of non-profit organizations, such as AUI/NRAO, an incentive to build additional retirement benefits over and above the benefits being accumulated in their regular retirement plans. Qualifed employees may divert a percentage of your annual base salary to one or more of the Voluntary Tax-Deferred Retirement Program options that are also known as 403(b) Supplemental Retirement accounts. You determine the pre-tax amount that you want to defer (up to the allowed IRS maximum) and how it is to be invested.

In service distributions and rollovers are allowed from 403(b) plans if you are 59 1/2 years old or older.
